Job Description:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee multi-cycle payrolls through various validations, adjustments, reconciliations and analysis utilizing Workday and Kronos. This position will also be required to set up payroll taxes, garnishments/family support as needed in Workday and work with external vendors when needed.  Must be able to apply pay guidelines based on various contracts and approved procedures to produce accurate and timely pay.  This position plays a lead role in troubleshooting pay issues, payroll related project management and coordination of testing payroll system enhancements.  They will represent the Payroll Team as work stream lead for Workday Payroll.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee processing of pay cycles for accuracy and timeliness.  Monitor and oversee the integrity of pay using established guidelines and pay procedures.  Creates and maintains documentation for new and changing processes and backs up the payroll processing functions if necessary.
  • Provide frontline support to locations by researching and analyzing questions or concerns for payroll users and internal/external customers and suppliers.  This includes frontline support for Workday payroll and Kronos timekeeping questions.
  • Coordinate and complete payroll quarterly and yearend activities including W2’s.
  • Understand garnishment laws to ensure correct priority setting and timely remittance of all family support, levies, and garnishments.
  • Play a lead role in the testing and implementation of upgrades for all payroll related systems, including Workday and Kronos.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate action, i.e.: check sheeting, charting recommended process changes, etc. to initiate improvement, eliminate rework and improve efficiencies.  Develop and maintain customer/supplier relationship through ongoing expectation exchanges, through feedback and problem solving.
  • Play a lead role in the integration of acquisitions/divestitures including, but not limited to payroll setup, parallel testing, user training and support.
  • Identify and solve root causes of discrepancies in payroll and tax related matters.
  • Support coordination, planning and scheduling of new and existing projects; serve as a subject matter expert and communicate status, define and track milestones by developing project plans, along with effective collaboration with all affected areas of the organization.
  • Provides leadership to payroll specialists and offer ongoing coaching, guidance, support, growth opportunities and feedback as needed, both informally and formally through the PDR process.
  • Maintaining and applying internal control standards – SOX compliance.
  • General Ledger reconciliation of payroll accounts.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required: Business, Accounting or a related field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years processing payrolls
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Workday experience preferred
  • Kronos experience preferred
  • Accurate and attentive to detail
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Must be able  to communicate effectively within and between departments and to all levels within the organization as well as external customers; critical in all aspects of payroll related project management to keep all areas informed
  • Possess good judgment and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a cross functional team
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities by effectively prioritizing workload to meet payroll and project related deadlines
  • Possess good planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Adapt quickly and efficiently to new situations, cope effectively with pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to train and/or mentor new employees, team members and Field HR
  • Experience with system conversions; payroll and time and attendance
  • Experience leading people and/or processes
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to generate reports requested for both internal and external customers
