Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct verifications of food safety and regulatory compliance programs to ensure Quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in all departments are being followed.
  • Food Safety Plan: process preventive controls, receiving/storage preventative controls, allergens, sanitation, warehouse, calibration of equipment thermometer, scales, etc.
  • Quality Standards: net weight control, recipe control, non-conforming products/material control, identification/ traceability, finished product evaluations including organoleptic attributes of the product, etc.
  • Perform analytical, microbiological and sensory testing and analysis of in-process and finished product samples according to approved standard operating procedures. Record and evaluate test data and notify the Quality Supervisor of any deviations from the product specifications.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and determine the necessary corrective action.
  • Perform all in-house test procedures, cleaning, routine maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of lab test equipment.
  • Collects environmental, sanitation effectiveness, and allergen swabs; including sample collection, documentation and packaging for laboratory analysis.
  • Evaluates the Environmental Monitoring Program and Sanitation Effectiveness Program results,
  • Responsible for formulating the action plan, documenting preventative/corrective actions and the effectiveness of the different tasks executed.
  • Plans with the sanitation supervisor weekly tasks and resources for routine and gluten free cleaning (coordinating cleaning equipment and swabbing).
  • Provides support to Sanitation.
  •  Anticipate and recognize problems related to cleaning and sanitation, communicate and participate in their elimination.
  • Communicates pre-operational inspection findings and identifies the preventative/corrective actions.
  • Calculates chemical concentrations- and verifies the accurate preparation of chemical solutions/cleaning agents.
  • Verifies the SSOPs and communicates any upgrades or modifications needed.
  • Participates in CI Team (Continuous Improvement) by coordinating and leading quality improvement projects.
  • Assist in the investigation of customer complaints, quality incidents and deviations to standard.
  • Perform administrative duties such as maintain records, forms and logs including computer databases, and performing regular inventory checks and providing the Quality supervisor with a list of required supplies.  
  • Performs GMP and Internal Inspections of the facility, communicates results and follows-up completion of corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program in a similar field with a co-op placement opportunity
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques, chemistry, microbiology, math and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, WHMIS, sanitation principles and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Must be able to multi task and work well under stressful situations.
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational and judgement skills.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
