SUMMARY: Position exists to supervise and direct administrative and warehouse employees, as well as coordinate daily picking, receiving, and shipping activities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Interpret safety policies/practices to employees including enforcing safe work practices (Tool Box Talks, safe lift operation enforcement etc).  Supports behavioral base safety program (ZIP) and drives for completion of audits/actions.  Ensures lift truck certifications are maintained and personnel are trained/retrained as necessary.
  • Communicate Company policies to hourly team members and train them in standard work practices and procedures for safety, quality, productivity and efficiency.
  • Supervises the picking and loading of customer orders, subcontract orders, return to vendor orders, internal picks, and scrapping/recycling (as applicable to assigned area)
  • Educate employees on proper storage, transportation, and loading techniques. 
  • Prepares employee work assignments and expedites work flow when appropriate.
  • Recommend measures to improve safety, quality, productivity, cost, and equipment.  Use of CI tools and SRC is recommended approach.
  • Maintain warehouse in accordance with BRC standards and enforce product safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, subordinates, other supervisors and management.
  • Assist employees to correct job skill deficiencies and resolve work related issues through the use of appraisal/performance evaluations, coaching and counseling, conflict resolution, corrective action, and training programs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement events, 5s audits, safety audit corrections, EHS audits.
  • On occasion, perform activities of coworkers supervised.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 15 to 20 warehouse employees and clerical staff.  Administer supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in interviewing, training employees, planning, safety, assigning and directing work, 5s audit preparation, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or related field preferred.  Associate Degree (in related field) required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. A background with WMS utilizing bar code scanning, knowledge of inventory control, and a minimum of 2 years work experience in a food warehouse environment are preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as Bill of Ladings, packing slips, and standard operating procedures.  Possess ability to write routine emails and speak effectively with groups of employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Must have the ability to add, subtract, divide, as well as the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as weights and cubic measurements.

REASONING ABILITY:   Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.
