Position Overview:

Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic systems and components. Applies knowledge of electrical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and restores equipment to operation. The Technician is expected to work on electrical projects and electrical maintenance with little supervision. The technician is also expected to install and maintain high voltage up to 480v and low voltage down to 12vdc. The position would also require the ability to install and maintain various components of electrical controls and automation.

Responsibilities:


• Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and control functions in the facility


• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation


• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements; uses Lock–out, Tag-out


• Advises Line Operators and Mechanics of operational procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic equipment and components


• Informs appropriate management and mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved


• Supports the Maintenance department in their respective areas in matters pertaining to electrical, automation and control application/repair/optimization


• Reads and follows electrical schematics for high voltage, low voltage and various control circuits.


• Installs and maintains Motors, Drives, PLC’s, MCC’s etc.


• Runs conduit and pulls wire to NEC standards


• Maintains performance and maintenance records for identified equipment – e.g. downtime reports


• Research parts and fill out parts requests


• Install new equipment – work with outside contractors and make sure they understand what’s required and follow safety procedures


• Performs PM’s (Preventative Maintenance) functions as directed


• Interprets complex diagrams and schematics associated with manufacturing and support systems.


• Assists maintenance on running repair calls as required


• Performs other assigned duties as required


SAFETYAND QUALITY:


• Understands equipment hazards to prevent injury to self and others – understands company policies on safety and follow procedures – GMP’s, (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) PPE,  (Personal Protective Equipment) Lock out/Tag out


• Is able to safely lift items up to 50lbs – motors, parts - asks for help when lifting heavier items


• Recommends changes to improve safety standards


• Maintains proper housekeeping and safety standards


• Follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and all other food safety requirements


• Reports any food safety problems or potentially unsafe practices/conditions to Supervisor


• In the event of absence, the supervisor backs up this position’s food safety responsibilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


• May be assigned to work in extremely cold or hot conditions


• Most positions are located in areas with loud noise and will require the employee to wear protective ear plugs


• Other conditions include flour dust, wet floors, occasional smoke and fumes if bread burns, occasional fumes from cleaning chemicals (ammonia)


• Main activities will be frequent walking, occasional sitting, lifting, standing and some pushing, pulling and climbing.  


• Be able to perform some work in a cramped or confined space, or elevated and uneven surfaces.


SCOPE:  


• This position has no supervisory responsibilities


• Works as a team member and supports others when major problems occur


• Works closely with Plant Supervisors and Leads, PLC Programmer, Machine Operators, Fabricators and Mechanics

EDUCATION/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:


• Certified to use the motorized Pallet Jack, Fork Lift, Scissor Lift, Boom lift, Lock-out Tag-out – ensures safe operation of all machinery, tools and equipment


• Technical College or equivalent work experience in the field of electronics and controls


• Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes


• Complete understanding of machine automation, control logics and the NEC standards


• Working knowledge of various PLC and control systems.


• At least 2 years progressive work experience with controls systems and Industrial Electrical


• Food industry experience preferred but not required


• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required


• Able to read, write and speak English – bilingual Spanish a plus
