SUMMARY: An integral member of the inventory management team, a Category Planner works closely with Customer Service and Deployers to manage customer expectations, find service solutions, and deliver feedback to the scheduling teams and BU. The Category Planner monitors the item status, production schedules and works closely with the production schedulers to ensure policies are being followed.


The Category Planner Reviews underperforming SKU’s and partners with Sales/Marketing to improve efficiencies across the network.


Also works very closely with the Exit Management team and the Marketing team to ensure customer inventory is monitored throughout the process.  The Category Planner develops and maintains long inventory reports, and work on both root-cause analysis and disposition of inventory, as well as corrective-actions to limit future long inventory.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


  • Serve as primary point of contact for the company when supply issues arise. Work with sales, planning, replenishment, customer service and various others to communicate action plans.
  • Assist with PLM activity and discontinued products as they enter/leave our business. Ensure a positive transition for the customer as well as the various departments within the company.
  • Assist cross-functional communication on issues for label development of new labels, redesigned labels, packaging changes, formula changes, etc. to ensure expected customer service expectations.
  • Communicate issues with forecasting – either purchases of significantly more or less than the forecast. Work with Sales, Demand Planning and Customer Service to get more accurate numbers in the system to allow for better planning and service to customers.
  • Highlight and help resolve distressed/old-age inventory.
  • Provide data analysis support needed for the Supply Chain and BU teams on various projects.
  • Identify opportunities and solutions for potential service issues to our customers.
  • Work closely with Production Scheduling and Purchasing to help to maintain targeted inventory levels.
  • Communicate with Demand Planning, the Deployers, and Scheduling to ensure that forecasts are updated and STO’s are entered for customer promotional programs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication between the Manawa plant and the DC’s.

  • Manage graphic redesigns
  • Manage item status updates
  • Communication of the Supply Chain issues daily to Customer Service
  • Provide data and support to the Supply Chain group on various projects

  • Associate degree required in Supply Chain or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Supply Chain or related field
  • Able to access reports and data to utilize the information to make effective analytical decisions
  • Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to work proactively with functional teams such as Scheduling, Customer Service, Sales and Marketing to resolve Supply Chain issues.
