Job Description:

Directs the company’s environmental compliance and regulatory affairs efforts, and oversees sustainability efforts.  Responsibilities include developing strategies and implementing programs that support the company’s EHS philosophy, working with executive management, and administering a function budget.


  • Develop and direct an overall strategy for continuous improvement within the company’s environmental affairs initiatives.
  • Oversee the company’s environment, health and safety compliance auditing process, including leading audits, establishing annual audit schedules, selecting audit leaders and teams, and conducting annual protocol reviews. 
  • Develop, update and train affected personnel on company standard(s) related to environmental affairs.
  • Establish company goals and targets related to environmental affairs and regulatory matters.
  • Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support for all facilities and departments on regulatory matters (including M&A work). 
  • Serve as liaison with environmental regulatory agencies, and coordinate communications and actions with outside counsel, as necessary. 
  • Serve as liaison with executive management on key environmental matters.
  • Participate on the corporate EHS Council and provides direction on company environmental aspects and impacts.
  • Supervise one staff environmental specialist and one Sustainability specialist.
  • Administers a functional plan and oversees expenditures related to environmental and regulatory affairs.


10+ years of progressive environmental affairs experience, audit experience, and 3+ years management experience.


Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Safety & Health, EHS Management, or a related field required.  A Master's degree in any of those fields is preferred.  Professional certifications are a plus.


  • Developing and implementing EHS policies, programs and practices;
  • Applying technically sound judgment related to regulatory affairs;
  • Familiarity with day to day realities of a manufacturing plant, food industry preferred.
  • Developing and implementing department policies and procedures;
  • Interpreting and applying company policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Working with all levels of management and employees (eg: executive, division, plant, etc.)
  • Developing and monitoring expenditures and budget;
  • Providing expert consultation and advice on EHS strategies and philosophies;
  • Analyzing and researching operational and strategic information and determining appropriate actions;
  • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and others as needed;
  • Collaborating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.

Typically requires; typing, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

May require; climbing ladders/stairs and walking and working in plant environments.

Sedentary Work; Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
