Job Description: The Maintenance Manager provides leadership and direction to plant maintenance department which is responsible for repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment in manufacturing operations. In addition, this position is responsible to eliminate all causes of failure, ensure full useful life of the assets & components therein. The manager owns the standards within the Maintenance Operating System, which includes: critical spare inventory controls, base systems reliability (compressed air, electricity, and controlled water), equipment performance and evaluations, provides support for asset maintenance required by operating personnel, equipment reliability and design improvements, periodic and predictive maintenance requirements, & work planning.  Creates and manages the maintenance budget. This position is responsible to maintain excellent communication with operations to assure timely and professional service is provided.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all maintenance employees in order to achieve plant goals via continuous improvement and alignment to the company’s vision, mission and values.
  • Execute the plant-maintenance vision and mission to achieve zero breakdowns through base condition maintenance
  • Complies with OSHA rules while performing maintenance functions.
  • Display high pace urgency in order to encourage better business performance. Set high goals and standards of performance for peers and direct reports.
  • Consistently demonstrate positivity, authority and credibility. Establish rapport with peers, direct reports, and other plant employees. Able to effectively work and communicate cross functionally and with all levels of leadership within the organization.
  • Set aggressive objectives and priorities in order to drive improvement with clear and visual goals and accountabilities. Work with all departments as required to align resources to deliver against business requirements in the areas of cost, financial controls, quality, safety and business initiatives.
  • Play a strategic role in the training and development of all direct reports. Manage a staff of direct reports through regular performance reviews and developmental activities to ensure movement towards a high-performance organization, while assuring effective performance of the department. Function as a mentor to build a positive and productive working environment.
  • Hire, train, coach and review performance of hourly employees. Work closely with HR on employee disciplinary issues, terminations, and recruitment.
  • Responsible for departmental administrative duties relating to direct report supervision, including but not limited to progressive discipline, timekeeping, and policy implementation.
  • Review and approve the implementation of equipment specific training programs for all maintenance personnel
  • Work closely with Engineering department to manage and coordinate effective capital projects to improve safety, quality, costs and efficiency, as well as monitor, control and reduce operating expenses.
  • Ensure proper utilization of all maintenance resources to support program objectives.
  • Approve or suggest preferred vendors for equipment, parts and instrumentation for all production, production support equipment and new projects. Ensure maintenance work costs do not exceed approved budget by creating and managing labor and utility budgets.
  • Oversee the planning of all short term and long-term maintenance functions. Ensure compliance of maintenance inspections and PM. Monitor and evaluate the upkeep and maintenance of all areas of the facility.
  • Responsible for the approval of corrective maintenance work order estimates and scheduling.
  • Perform and coach Root Cause Analysis to identify and resolve recurring downtime / inefficient operational issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to ensure machinery or equipment issues are resolved in a timely and professional manner and maintenance shop equipment and tools meet operational requirements. Provide coaching for efficient troubleshooting / root cause problem solving activities and maintenance repair to maximize asset effectiveness
  • Coordinate maintenance meetings and own departmental and plant KPIs. Prepare maintenance engineering metrics and reports and utilize the data to develop and/or evaluate methods and procedures for improving maintenance operations.

  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing, FDA/USDA, OSHA and EPA regulations

  • Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills including experience with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Microsoft Office. 
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to lead and support multiple projects. 
  • Auto CAD, PLC programming, and PSM experience a plus, but not required


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required – Type: Engineering or related area

Minimum Experience Preferred:

7-10 years of progressive and demonstrated maintenance engineering experience with at least 3-5 years of maintenance management experience. Food industry experience required.
