Job Title: Manager Plant Engineering

Position Overview:

Develops, implements, and manages overall plant technical strategies and tactics focused on engineering projects, maintenance and operations improvement programs. Manages vertical start-up processes to ensure implementation of low loss production systems. Provides solutions to technical problems and recommendations for improvements in production activities. Develops and leads plant-specific engineering and maintenance strategies to achieve key performance goals. Creates and manages all plant technical expense budgets and works with Corporate Engineering to deliver the capital budget.



Responsibilities:

•         Works collaboratively with Plant Management team and Corporate Engineering Director to develop technical strategies that deliver safety, environmental, energy, maintenance, OEE and continuous improvement programs that deliver both the company and plant vision.

•         Develops and deploys overall plant technical strategies and tactics focused on operations, safety, energy usage, engineering projects, maintenance, and MRO improvement, continuous improvement, and OEE programs that improve the Plant performance.

•         Manages the day-to-day plant technical organization and is responsible to deliver maximum equipment/system uptime through the application of OEE and continuous concepts and tools. 

•         Partners with Operations, Warehouse, and Maintenance departments to evaluate labor productivity, skill development, and procedures relating to new equipment or processes from conceptual phase to one year after commissioning.

•         Promotes and incorporates “Safety” as a culture and a strategy in all aspects of the technical and operations areas and demands focused results from the entire technical organization. 

•         Develops and leads plant-specific engineering and maintenance strategies to achieve key performance goals.

•         Maintains plant facility drawings, new equipment documentation library, and project related documentation.

•         Creates, understands and strictly manages the plant technical expense budgets and works with Corporate Engineering Director to deliver the capital budget.

•         Requires the in-depth working knowledge of the plant’s CMMS which is SAP Maintenance

•         Position requires continuous benchmarking against other TreeHouse facilities as well as external companies.

•         Understands and provides guidance to plant personnel on TreeHouse Engineering policy, processes, and specifications.

  • Development and advancement of direct reports is a key deliverable of this position.


Supervision:

Directly supervises 1 employee

Indirectly supervises additional employees and/or contract employees during project work



Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:

Education:         

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering:  mechanical or electrical engineering preferred
  • 3 – 5 years previous experience in manufacturing and/or engineering, preferably within food or consumer products industry
  • Exposure to multiple supply chain and other business pillars in previous work is preferred

Knowledge and Skill Level:        

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing unit operations.
  • Exposure to productivity/continuous improvement methodology in previous positions.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong statistics, data modeling/analysis skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish Language preferred.

Experience:      

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment working with plant operations, production maintenance, machine shop and industrial construction required 
  • Strong knowledge and experience in project work and understanding of electronic principles is required
  • Design through installation of capital projects in a Food, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, solids handling FDA/USDA processing and packaging manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of FDA, USDA or GMP requirements preferred
  • Candidates who have experience with conveying equipment, packaging equipment, capital project engineering and maintenance experience will be given first consideration
  • Must have an understanding of OSHA and EPA standards as they relate to plant environment
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Experience with Work Order and prioritization systems preferred
  • Understanding of maintenance best practices, MRO management, Preventative Maintenance practices and scheduling
  • Experience managing staff across multiple shifts
