Job Summary:

Perform basic quality control testing in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Ensures product quality by coordinating the accurate and timely testing of products, monitoring and assisting all product testing. Ensures Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety and plant safety procedures are followed.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Quality Team Lead.  This position receives direction and guidance from the Quality Lead.

Essential Tasks:

  • Meet/Exceeds Quality Technician I & II requirements
  • Write QNs for all product types and confirm disposition
  • Participation in Plant  Pillar
  • Maintain average of 95% or better on monthly Proficiency evaluations
  • Implement 2 Productivity, CS or CA projects
  • Ensure QA Tech II participation in Proficiency
  • Participate in Lab Huddles
  • Participate in Operations R&R
  • Participate in Internal Housekeeping/Sanitation/GMP Audits
  • Supports the organization in compliance to GLP, GMP, Food Safety and Personnel and Plant Safety
  • Supports all aspects of quality, including inspection and testing of raw materials, in-process products, finished goods and packaging materials
  • Works effectively with Quality Lead to ensure lab is staffed accordingly
  • Works in conjunction with Sanitation to perform equipment swabbing
  • Works in conjunction with Quality Lead to ensure laboratory equipment is maintained
  • Responsible for ensuring supplies are maintained
  • Ensures lab technicians are performing tests according the approved methods and completing work accurately and timely
  • Responsible for placing non-conforming materials on HOLD and determining the disposition
  • Must complete all documents and work timely and accurately
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication to peers and management
  • Display Leadership through participation in Plant supported programs around Food Safety and Quality and Plant Safety
  • Responsible for ensuring employees perform verification on laboratory equipment
  • Responsible for assisting Quality Lead in ensuring passing scores are achieved in laboratory proficiency program
  • Expected to contribute to the continuous improvement programs of the Department
  • Participates in full plant clean up as required
  •  In conjunction with lead packer, responsible for obtaining, approving, and documenting all requested samples.
  • Responsible for obtaining “retained and hourly” samples; identifying and maintaining as per procedure.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending training and reviewing policies.
  • Ensures efficient and quality production and positive employee relations by complying with all employment policies, rules, regulations, safety procedures, good manufacturing procedures, product protection standards and actively participating in all training requirements.

Job Qualifications:

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:

  • High School, technical school education or equivalent; desire post HS education in natural sciences.
  • Associates degree preferred, but not required
  • Previous supervisory experience is desired, but not required
  • Basic computer skills to input data.
  • Ability to complete algebraic math.
  • Basic telephone etiquette skills.
  • Ability to perform lab tests rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to have attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to visually inspect product for flaws.
  • Ability to work individually or as a team.
  • Mental alertness to identify problem areas through predetermined methods.
  • Ability to interpret, understand and follow detailed procedures.
  • Ability to communicate irregularities with appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to be organized, prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to communicate information one-on-one and in small group situations.

  • Ability to pull 12-25lb.; lift 35lb. to obtain samples.
  • Ability to lift 10lbs. continually.
